Hear it from our clients

Hear firsthand how Waya's electric vehicles are transforming daily commutes, business operations, and adventures.

Nick Rowe

Veteran’s Security Services, Country Manager

"We have been very happy with Waya's electric bikes for our urban operations. The units have generated cost savings, are easy to use, and are able to work in Juba's tough climatic and terrain conditions. As a result, we are in the process of replacing our entire fleet of petrol bike's with Waya's electric bikes."

Jonas van Eyck

Jump Energy, CEO

"As a software-focused firm we are mostly hardware agnostic when it comes to electric vehicles that we integrate with. Waya’s bodaboda is one of the highest quality products we’ve seen in the market, and we are keen to develop our partnership with them so that we can collaboratively deliver great e-mobility solutions to the sector."

Layna Mahon

M-Gas, Last Mile & Security Divisional Head

"We have rigorously tested most of the electric two and three-wheeler products available in the market. Waya’s electric utility bike, based on the Bajaj Boxer 150, and their cargo three-wheeler are the best performing electric products in the market. They are the only units we’ve tested capable of carrying the required loads of LPG day in, day out, while generating significant savings in run costs. We are in discussion over scaling up their deployment with us."

Jason Gras

Stima Boda, CEO

"Waya’s engineering work stands out in the market as they’ve managed to build a high-performance, functional bike that fits the market’s needs. Their flagship bike has spare part compatibility with the local market, which is a big plus."

Frequently asked questions

01
What is the “Waya Boda”?

The “Waya Boda” is an electric motorcycle designed to carry one rider and one pillion passenger, with a wheelbase of 1285 mm. It is built for the diverse African terrain, handling tarmac and all-weather rural roads with ease.

02
Is the “Waya Boda” more economical than an internal combustion engine (ICE) equivalent?

Yes, the main objective of our commercial products is to reduce the total cost of ownership for the end-user. Higher up-front costs are massively off-set by significantly lower run costs due to reduced service and maintenance activities and a low power bill instead of a fuel bill. Our clients to date have generated upwards of 25% reduced costs of ownership.

03
How does the “Waya Boda” handle cargo?

The “Waya Boda” is comfortably able to carry loads of 220kg in addition to the rider, with or without a pillion. Overloading beyond the recommended capacity can lead to performance issues, so we strongly recommend adhering to load specifications

04
How is the “Waya Boda” sustainable?

Waya Electric is committed to sustainability, and the “Waya Boda” is nearly fully compliant with circular economy principles. Approximately 95% of the materials used can be recycled, while the remaining 5% is repurposable, making the “Waya Boda” a zero-landfill product with the right.

05
How do I charge my bike?

Every product comes with a 2kW, 25A charger that plugs into any standard wall socket. The charger connects to the bike via an Andersen connector (make sure it’s connected properly!), and you simply switch on the power at the mains to start charging. Max. charge time is ~2 hours, and the green light will show on the charger when your bike is fully charged. In early 2025 we will also be exploring a swap-station model in Nairobi.

01
What is the wheelbase of the “Waya Boda”, and why is it important?

02
What type of battery diagnostics does the “Waya Boda” offer?

The “Waya Boda” comes with IoT-enabled technology and a mobile app for real-time battery diagnostics, allowing riders to easily monitor battery health and performance.

What motor options are available?

We offer the “Waya Boda” in 3 kW and 4 kW motor versions, tailored for the robustness and torque needed on African roads and infrastructure, providing sufficient power for both urban and rural use.

04
Does the “Waya Boda” support battery swapping?

Yes, the “Waya Boda” is equipped with battery-swapping capabilities, allowing riders to quickly replace the battery to minimize downtime. In 2025 will be exploring set-up of a battery swap network across Nairobi.

05
Does Waya Electric offer fleet management options?

Yes, the “Waya Boda” includes a fleet management system that allows operators to monitor multiple vehicles’ performance, location, and battery status, ideal for businesses and logistics providers.

06
Does the “Waya Boda” support regenerative braking?

Yes, the “Waya Boda” is equipped with regenerative braking, which helps recharge the battery during deceleration, contributing to an extended range and more efficient energy use.

01
What kind of maintenance does the “Waya Boda” require?

Maintenance includes periodic checks on the battery, brakes, tires, and electrical components. Thanks to its electric drivetrain, it doesn’t require traditional fuel system or oil-based maintenance, reducing user headache and cost over the vehicle’s lifetime.

02
Are there trained personnel available for servicing?

Yes, we have trained service personnel and certified technicians available to assist with maintenance, battery swaps, and other support needs, we also have a training program to help build a capacity for EV technicians and conduct training workshops on a regular basis.

03
Can the “Waya Boda” be customized for business or specialized uses?

Absolutely! Beyond transportation, the “Waya Boda” serves as a tool for economic empowerment and community service. It can be used as a cost-effective motorbike taxi, a vehicle for transporting farm produce, or for making deliveries. With assistance from our design department, the “Waya Boda” can also be customized to function as a small mobile shop, coffee stand, or even a motorbike ambulance. We work closely with clients to tailor the motorbike to meet specific business or specialized requirements.
